An app for creative minds

Inspiration can come at the most innoportune times and places, being quite common not to have adequate means in which to capture our ideas. Mobile phones have become an indispensable element in our daily lives, making them the ideal way to organize our thoughts quickly.

The solution to this problem is to develop an app that simplifies the creative process by giving the user the opportunity to write, draw or make recordings from anywhere without the need of an Internet connection.

Getting to know the users

In order to determine the end user of such an app, an online survey was conducted asking 25 users from creative professions (writers, illustrators and graphic designers) if they received inspiration at random times during the day and if they had any methods for jotting down their ideas.

Competitive analysis

Similarly a competitive analysis of similar apps was carried out. The analysis shows that no application fully meets the desired requirements. Those apps with a higher match rate are more focused on managing work teams or user's day-to-day life and have a slight learning curve, while those with a more creative profile focus only on a certain aspect but are simpler and faster to use.

Branding

After analyzing the competition, a corporate identity was designed for the proposed app under the fictional brand name 'Creativo'. This brand identity would serve as the basis to determine the aesthetics and general tone of the app.

Sketches and Wireframes

The first step of the design process consisted on making simple paper sketches about the app's interface and structure, writing down everything that could be relevant and interesting.

These initial ideas were then transformed into digital wireframes where the interaction between elements and sections of the app was defined.

Design System

Before starting with the design of the mockups, a Design System was established defining aspects such as typography, colors, icons, buttons, components and other UI elements, as well as the way in which they would be used. This system aims to provide the design with internal coherence and cohesion while being visually appealing.

Mockups

One of the highlights of 'Creativo' is its intermodality, that is, the ability to combine different types of files in a simple way by dragging one element on top of the other. Surprisingly, this feature is not present in almost any of the previously analyzed apps or they only allow users to create folders with the same type of files.

Note-taking is perhaps the most important aspect of an app of this kind, so the design aims for simplicity and immediacy so that the user can take notes and access their ideas quickly without the slighlest loss of time.

The rest of the functions complement the annotations and are intended for users who might prefer to express their ideas in a different way. The possibility of combining them into folders allows greater flexibility in categorizing and theming creative projects.

Conclusion

The goal of 'Creativo' is to become an indispensable element in the creative process, focusing on sudden moments of inspiration. The app aims to replace traditional methods of expressing ideas by offering a wide range of possibilities adapted to each profile and taking advantage of the immediacy of the mobile phone that allows its use from anywhere.
